Overview

The owners of 5 Church Street are both architects and have designed the cottage to retain historic features in a bright, modern setting. It combines traditional character with contemporary design and provides all the facilities you need for a restful stay. It has been rated 4 star by Visit England on account of the quality of the accommodation, decor and cleanliness.
On the ground floor there is a comfortable open-plan living and dining room with well-equipped kitchen area. There is underfloor heating and a coal-effect electric stove. The downstairs bathroom has bath with a good shower over it, and heated stone tiled floor. On the first floor, there are two bedrooms (one double, one twin), both with sloping ceilings and exposed roof timbers. The cottage has private off-street parking for one car and a secure bike store.

The Living Room

5 Church Street has a contemporary but cosy living room with dining area and well-planned kitchen  – perfect for those evenings in, when everyone can share in preparing a meal after a day out in the countryside. There is a traditional dining table with high-backed chairs. Classic tableware and glassware are provided – enough for six so you can invite two friends to dine with you. The woodstrip flooring has heating underneath and a rug for bare feet; the two sofas seat four comfortably.

The remarkably convincing electric ‘wood-burning stove’ is operated at the flick of a switch. A television with Freeview and DVD player, Bluetooth speaker, radio and CD player are provided. The well-equipped oak kitchen has a fan-assisted electric oven and ceramic hob, fridge, microwave, high quality kitchen utensils and ample food storage (see cottage equipment inventory). The washing/drying machine is tucked away under the stairs, out of sight and hearing.

The Bedrooms

5 Church Street has two bedrooms, one double and one twin. Both bedrooms are tastefully and comfortably furnished. Each bed is provided with crisp cotton bed linen, high quality duvet, two pillows per person and extra blankets for those chilly nights. The generous dressing table in the twin room doubles as a desk for those seeking a peaceful retreat for working away from home.

Both bedrooms are bright, airy and characterful, with roof windows and exposed roof timbers. All windows are fitted with blackout blinds as well as pretty curtains, to ensure a good night’s sleep.

The Bathroom

The modern, white bathroom has a full size bath and thermostatically-controlled, powerful shower. The combination boiler means there’s always plenty of hot water, on demand.

There is underfloor heating beneath the limestone floor tiles, a heated towel rail and a shaver point. Bath towels are provided for each guest, with hand towels additionally in the bathroom and kitchen.

Entrance hallway and exterior

The entrance hallway provides coat hanging space and room for shoes or walking boots. As in many older properties, the staircase is quite narrow and awkward – but there are good views from the windows on the way up!

Outside there is an off-street car-parking space for one vehicle immediately next door to 5 Church Street and there is a secure cycle store with electric cycle charging point behind the cottage.
